Ljuba Castot is a New York based choreographer who brings a unique perspective to choreography and performance strongly informed by the city’s underground culture. She came to New York City to study with modern dance pioneer Merce Cunningham and simultaneously immersed herself into the city’s underground street dance community. With this diverse foundation, she uses her range to create truly different and aesthetically beautiful moments in the world of dance and movement. One of those moments, the video “Hideaway” by Kiesza, earned Ljuba a JUNO award for Video of The Year and an MTV VMA nomination for Best Choreography.
She also received much critical acclaim for her work on Kiesza’s headlining US/EU/AUS tour as well as some very memorable TV appearances on the MTV EMAs, Much Music Awards, David Letterman, Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel. Ljuba has also created work with brands such as Fendi, Bad Bunch NYC and Smirnoff while continuously serving as the Creative Director for Kiesza, who's body of visual work reflects their constantly evolving collaboration. Signature to Ljuba’s brand of creating “something out of nothing”, she has a distinct ability to translate new and unique forms of movement and raw stylistic expression into a fresh format that connects instantly with the audience. Ljuba approaches each project with a high level of intuitive skill and her wide range of experience makes her creative process multifaceted and dynamic. Her prestigious accomplishments in the field, her genuine and uncompromisable passion together with her humble “hard work no nonsense” approach has garnered her respect and admiration from not only her fellow colleagues, but with music industry leaders as well, both domestically and internationally.
