Charm La'Donna is a prominent lyricist, songwriter, dancer, choreographer, and creative director motivated by one thing: instinct.
As a pre-teen, the Compton, California-bred creative picked up music from her older brother, an underground rapper. "That was our connection," she says. But when he went to jail, Charm put music on hold to focus on dance, an art form she had been perfecting since age 3.
An assiduous prodigy, Charm went on her first tour with Madonna at 17 before attending UCLA to study World Arts and Culture. She put herself through college as the protégé of renowned choreographer Fatima Robinson and has since become one of the most adored and in-demand multi-hyphenates in entertainment. She was the sole female performer while on Kendrick Lamar's DAMN.tour and choreographed the rapper's acclaimed 2018 Grammy performance. Charm, who ELLE has called a "mastermind," has also worked with Selena Gomez, Meghan Trainor, Britney Spears, Pharrell, Jay Rock, Anderson .Paak and Ella Mai, and is credited with choreographing Dua Lipa's MTV EMA performance, the Weeknd's performance at the Oscars, 6lack's inventive Coachella set, and international pop star Rosalia's all-Spanish tour. Additionally, she picked up the best choreography MTV VMA for the flamenco revivalist and Rosalia feat. J Balvin's "Con Altura" music video. Wrote FORBES: "Charm's diverse portfolio and skillset prove her prowess as a creative and businesswoman." She also choreographed the 2021 SuperBowl Halftime show for The Weeknd and BET Awards performance for Lil Baby, DJ Khaled and Roddy Rich, performances for Lizzo and list continues to grow. Her passion for all things creative also extends to directing. Charm co-directed all of her videos as well as projects for Ava Max and Meghan Trainor.
Poised to take her prolific career to the next level, Charm signed to Epic Records in 2020 and released her debut EP “La’Donna” in 2021. "My music is rooted in what moves me. I create music similar to the way I choreograph–it makes me feel good."As a mentor to many young artists, Charm is determined never to stifle her talent. She will creative direct, choreograph, and visualize her shows and will be the mastermind behind the lyrics and feelings her music evokes. Charm will inspire the passion and belief in being a strong, multi-faceted creative in the next generation.
"The bigger picture is to create a lane and pass the baton," she says. "I want to finance a non-profit geared towards youth and the arts and create my own mentorship organization because I was the kid who couldn't afford it. I'm going to knock the door down for anyone behind me because there are no boundaries. I want to do it all, and create art that changes the narrative and continues to push boundaries and show the world my culture. Art is a healing tool."
